El Índice de Regulación y Retención Hídrica (IRH) fue definido en el estudio nacional del agua 2010 (IDEAM), como la capacidad que tiene una cuenca o subcuenca de retener o regular el flujo de humedad. El método de cálculo establecido para este índice se basa en la curva de duración de caudales construida a partir de caudales medios diarios, realizando la relación entre el volumen representado por el área que se encuentra por debajo de la línea del caudal medio y el correspondiente al área total bajo la curva de duración de caudales diarios, siendo la expresión matemática la siguiente: <\/SPAN><\/P>
